Overview

Responsibilities will include travel to and maintaining the buildings and grounds of all Association buildings and grounds, including Camp Zehnder in Wall, as directed by the Director of Facilities. This will include, but not limited to, preventative maintenance and daily work orders, risk management issues, general upkeep and smooth/safe running of all mechanical equipment/repairs.  Will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare facility for daily opening; complete walk-through after closing to ensure that the facility is secure.
  • Assist in the overall appearance, general operation and repair of all association facilities and mechanical systems.
  • Assist with after-hours emergencies when called upon, such as snow removal.
  • Maintains department’s recordkeeping system on inspection reports, work orders, inventory forms and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Implements maintenance systems, procedures, standards and PM schedules
  • Completes material/ supply purchase request log sheets and inspects product for purchase compliance, i.e. quality, quantity and order specification.
  • Performs daily work orders, i.e. painting, fixing locks, changing lights, HVAC systems, pool equipment, and moving items; Help co-ordinate any necessary vendor and contractor activities.
  • Perform random and regular facility room setups/ breakdowns.
  • Receive deliveries and distributes appropriately as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities using maintenance industry’s best methods during the process.
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with the budgetary guidelines.
  • Keeps abreast of new maintenance systems, products and standards which will enable the CYMCA to improve its physical appearance and cost effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties, including lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, and other duties deemed necessary by Camp Director, Association Branch Executives and Director of Facilities.
  • Advises Camp Director, Association Branch Executives and Director of Facilities of potential problems, repairs and/or replacements needed.
  • Continually survey buildings and grounds for cleanliness, hazards and to identify maintenance needs.
  • Respond to work orders and maintenance concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.

 

 

Risk Management: All Staff are responsible for assuring the safety of CYMCA Members/ Participants and for the care, maintenance and safety of all CYMCA facility/ program environments. In addition, all staff is required to report accidents/incidents/emergencies in accordance with The Community YMCA standard operating policy immediately and within 24 hours to the Association Branch Executives and Director of Facilities.  Staff must also adhere to CYMCA confidentiality requirements related to all reported incidents.

 

Quality Assurance: All staff are expected to plan, deliver, and maintain quality work, facilities, programs and program environments. Staff will be expected to follow YMCA best practices for their program/membership discipline and to meet or exceed The Community YMCA Standards.

Qualifications

Required: NJ Low Pressure Black Seal Boiler Operator License

Required: CPO (Certified Pool Operator) or within 120 days of hire

Required: Valid NJ Driver’s License

  • Ability to multi-task and take direction to meet priority needs as they arise.      
  • Demonstrate the ability to take direction and make decisions regarding safety, security and emergency situations to protect the interests of our members, staff and facilities.
  • Be proactive in reporting or resolving issues as they are seen to prevent accidents and incidents.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to hear the conversational voice with or without a hearing aid.
  2. Ability to see with or without corrective lenses.
  3. Ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances.
  4. Ability to lift and carry children in an emergency, as well as lift and move classroom furniture.
  5. Ability to use arms, legs, and feet to accomplish the job.
  6. Ability to evacuate the building during emergencies.

 

Trainings/Staff Meetings: Maintain required trainings, but not limited to: Bloodborne Pathogens; Lockout Tagout; Confined Space; Hazard Communication; Child Abuse Prevention; Slips, Trips & Falls; Safe Lifting; plus New Team Member Orientation, CPO, CPR and First Aid. Attend staff meetings within the specified timeframes.  Keep abreast of current trends in facilities and camp maintenance.
