Overview

 Under the direction and supervision of the teacher, the F/T RBPS Instructional Assistant shall assist in the implementation, planning, and preparation of the designed and approved preschool program in partnership with the Red Bank School District during the school year (September through June). The FT Instructional Assistant will also be assigned to another YMCA Youth Development program during the months of July and August.

Responsibilities

1. Assist in the implementation of the approved and designed curriculum. Ensure that the classroom is in compliance with the standards set forth by The Community YMCA and the Red Bank School District as well as with state and local licensing codes.

2. Administer small group activities following the approved curriculum as well as games, art and stories.

3. Encourage children to maintain focus and involvement during classroom/learning times.

4. Assist teacher in providing a positive learning environment and implementing acceptable age and developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques, in consultation with the lead teacher.

5. Assist teacher in the preparation of materials and daily activities for the children.

6. Supervise children in gross motor activities and during naptime.

7. Be responsible for the health and safety of the children in our program at all times. Ensure that the children are released only to the custodial parent/guardian or person authorized by the custodial parent/guardian.

8. Report any suspected child abuse to teacher. Document as necessary.

9. Ensure that the children are signed-in/signed-out properly on a daily basis.

10. Maintain cleanliness and orderly appearance of the classroom and facility.

11. Assist with lunches and snack time routine.

12. Be responsible for keeping supplies well-stocked (i.e. toilet paper, paper towels, soap, plates, snack, etc.). Notify teacher when supplies are low.

13. Understand and implement all emergency plans and procedures of your classroom and facility.

14. Direct parents with questions and/or concerns to lead teacher or director.

15. Attend district staff meetings and in-service trainings as required.

16. Attend meetings with Preschool Director when requested, annual staff trainings in August/September and at least 12 hours of staff development throughout the year. All certifications must be kept current.

17. Encourage parent participation in all family events. Attend mandatory events (i.e. - Back to School Night, Family Movie Nights, International Pot Luck Dinner, etc.).

18. Actively participate in the Annual Campaign; recruit volunteers to form a team; encourage, assist and support all volunteers; enthusiastically solicit donations to meet your goal; attend all scheduled Annual Campaign meetings, Kick-Off, and Victory Celebration.

19. Conduct self in a professional manner at all times with children, parents, co-workers, and community.

20. Assume and perform other duties/functions as deemed appropriate by the teacher or Director

Qualifications

 The incumbent must have at minimum a Degree in Education or related field (or currently in the process of obtaining such) and at least one year of experience working with preschool children. The incumbent must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive toward the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, be mature, be responsible, be organized, act as a role model for the children, and demonstrate a commitment to the YMCA philosophy and core values (caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility).

Physical Demands:

1. Ability to hear the conversational voice with or without a hearing aid.

2. Ability to see with or without corrective lenses.

3. Ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances.

4. Ability to lift and carry children in an emergency, as well as lift and move classroom furniture.

5. Ability to use arms, legs, and feet to accomplish the job.

6. Ability to evacuate the building during emergencies.
